Beginning Quilting Class

The quilt pictured represents a sampler quilt, but we will be teaching you different blocks then those shown above. We will conduct a series of 2-hour classes, once a week, for 12 weeks. In this class, we will guide you through all the steps to make a complete quilt top.

During the first class we will discuss the various quilting tools and supplies you will need when making quilts. We will have a sort of "show and tell" and discuss the pros and cons of each tool. Then we will talk about the color, design, and fabric selection. Afterwards, you can select any fabrics, notions, or tools you need from the shop. Rose has authorized a generous 15% discount on any items you purchase from us for the class. I will let you know a week in advance if you will need something new for the following week's class. You do not have to purchase all the supplies during the first day of class.

At the beginning of the second class you will cut the fabric for your quilt and start making your first block. In the following sessions, you will learn how to cut and piece a variety of quilt blocks using a different technique for each block. The last couple classes you will learn how to arrange your blocks and sashing. You will then sew your blocks and sashing together, then add the border fabric. You have finished with your quilt top.

I will discuss with you various methods commonly used to add batting and backing, quilting your quilt top, and quilt binding choices.

If your sewing machine is not portable, too big for you to transport back and forth, or you don't have a sewing machine, please call me when you register for class and we will make arrangements for you to use a shop machine.

Quilting is challenging, rewarding and fun. Quilting with friends is even better.
